BlacX 5G Duet Docking Station not recognized (Set Address Failed))

Running Windows 8.1, I purchased 2 BlackX 5g Duet docking stations.  Could not get the first one I tried to recognize for anything.  Tried the second one and it worked great!  Looked like a DOA of the first dock so I returnede it and ordered another.

The replacement came in, I plugged it in (keep in mind I have a working dock right now already attached to the system), Device Manager eventually show the device as "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed)".  Doesn't show in Disk management either.

I found one solution that required a small Windows update on Windows 8 to get this to work.  Even though I already had one working, I downloaded and ran the update.  It said it was installed already and exited.  I can't seem to find any help on this online other than other posts relating to the same issue.

I checked the Thermaltake support page, it's Sunday and the phone support is only available M thru F which dosn't help me, the Chat option says its coming in the future, ugggh, and the email support page is a bad link!  So no support for me.  So I am raching out to the forum to hopefully find my solution.

I understand the address issue, but also understand it will be a reg hack to prob fix it.  I was hoping for some other insight before I proceed further.

Thanks in advance!!

Hello and welcome to the Tt forums!

Have you tested each docking station seperately? Would like to verify that each one is working properly by itself first.

This could be related to an IRQ conflict or other issue with multiple docking stations installed at one time.

Also, for the support link, can you please link me to support page you are referning to with the broken link and we can make sure to get any issues resolved.

You can email our USA Support team - ttsupport@thermaltakeusa.com directly for support or contact by phone 800.988.1088

Thanks!

>> Turned oth off, tuned on the second one which I could not get connected.  No Go.
>> Turned off the Second one and turned the first one back on.  First one works.

>> Installed them one at a time.  had an issue with the very first one I tried.  Couldn't get it to work, unboxed the second one, shut the first one off and the second came up which is now the one I refer to as the working drive.  Ordered a replacement which I refer to as he second drive now.  Brought online while the first was up and continued working.  Second replacement drive will not come up in Disk Management or as a USB device.

>> I have a windows 7 PC here that I tried the dock on that I can't get working, alone, by itself, not both of them.  It worked.  Brought back to the Windows 8 PC, wouldn't work, yet the other does.  Doesn't make sense since I would suspect they both should not work.

>> Link appears to working today.  Probably bad timing when I tried it.  Thanks for requesting that anyway.

>> Feel free to correct my spelling on the Post Title.  I couldn't.  I meant "BlacX 5G Duet Docking Station not recognized (Set Address Failed))".  Sorry about that .... :)

Tekwizrd,

Thanks for the reply back.

I apologize if I did not perform enough information, please disconnect the drive completely and test each one sepreately.

If one is working and the other is not, try the same cable on the working unit, still no go, suggest you RMA it.

Also, if you have any questions, give us a call and we can troubleshoot this with you to see if there is anything else we can do.

I think the cable is bad.  I run both of the units solo using the same USB cable.  I also tried both USB 3.0 ports with the good cable and they work.  Unfortunately i do not have a spare USB 3.0 cable to try.  I also had to order these site to store from Walmart and wait about a week to get them in.  Been dealing with this for a about three weeks already.

I cannot get either one to work using the second USB cable.  This is the second DOA i've recieved.  Not sure if the first one was the cable or the dock at this point.  I returned the first cable with the dock. so the bad cable came in with the replacement dock I ordered.

What's next?

Okay ... went to the shack and bought a USB 3.0 Cable.  $32!!!!  Will be returniung this once I get my replacement cable from ThermalTake.

BlacX Due 5G Docking station shows up correctly now, but it keeps cycling.  I have NIRSOFT USBView loaded.  It shows the dock loaded correctly, then it cycles and the drives are removed from File Explorer and then the USBDevView program shows it going offline, then online, and continues to cycle like that.  It almost appears that it is fighting itself for an address or something.

Can two of the Docking stations be run on Windows 8.1 together?
