HappyBuddhaman got a reaction from Aarohi Angel in Do you think sound cards are worth buying?
I compared the Creative Zonar ZXR and the ASUS Phoebus (sp?) with the on board audio of my MB (Maximus Formula 7), and it honestly isn't worth the investment for me.  The on board audio of my MB either matches or comes extremely close to that of $200+ sound cards.

If I had a cheaper MB, maybe I'd invest in one, but the higher end MB's just don't need them in my opinion.

Project 2501 is turning into a dream machine (see specs below), was wondering if anyone has any experience with audioengine A5+ speakers.  Turning into an Audiophile and looking for the best quality I can get (within reason).  I have a Soundblaster ZxR pushing some Corsair SP2500's right now, but looking to eventually upgrade into something better.

I have a set of Corsair SP2500 speakers, quite good to be honest.  Do you guys keep speakers on your desk, or elevate them on stands / shelves?  I have these on my desk, but am considering putting them on shelves on my wall, I kinda have them rigged there now, and am am getting a better effect from them having them a little further away.  These things can really crank, and having them close seems to throw the balance of everything off.

What I'm currently working on.  Won't be running for another month or two.  Inspiration for this was the anime The Ghost In The Shell.  I wanted to build something that I thought would look like a PC in that movie, and the Snow Edition Level 10 has the perfect look IMO.

    Parts list -

Case - Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition
    MB - ASUS Formula VII
    CPU - Intel i7 4790k - planning to OC
CPU Cooling - Thermaltake AIO Water Extreme 3.0
PSU - EVGA Supernova 1300 G2 (Wanted the White Toughpower 1250 DPS you had at CES, wasn't released so far, but if you're feeling generous.....)
GPU - nVidia 650 ti - (replacing next year to dual GPU's running SLI, using the current one from an older PC that went bad)
    RAM - 16 GB G.SKILL Trident X 2400 (2 8GB sticks)
    Fans - 2 x ENERMAX T.B. Vegas Duo UCTVD14A 140mm 2 Color (Blue/Red) LED Case Fan
               3 x ENERMAX T.B.VEGAS SINGLE UCTVS12P-R 120mm Case Fan
Mouse - Thermaltake Level 10 gaming mouse - Red
    Headphones - Thermaltake Level 10
Keyboard - Thermaltake MEKA G UNIT red illuminated Cherry MX Black
    ASUS ROG Front Panel
SSD - Samsung 128 GB Boot drive
    HDD - 2 1TB HDD's running in RAID 0
Dual Monitor, will be expanding to tri-monitor set up in the future.

After replacing the video card next year, will install a custom water cooling loop.  Keeping an eye out for the cooling parts Thermaltake had on diaplay at the 2014 CES, might cut the top and make a custom top and put in a three fan rad.  Once it's up and running soon, it will be Project 2501 - Version .5, since it'll still be a work in progress.

I have a pair of old 2.1 speakers that are starting to fail on me.  I'm looking at another set, that are very hard to find and might be going on EOL (End of Life).  A store near me has them in stock, and they are made from a reputable company, and all the reviews on them are fantastic.  Even with the EOL I'm sure they would honor the 2 year warranty.

Think it's worth the risk for an EOL product?

Some shots of the finished product.  Next year I'm going to ditch the 650ti and get a dual SLI setup, tyhen I'm going to set up a custom liquid cooling loop, hopefully Thermaltake will have all their custom pieces available by then.  Running a 128 GB SSD boot drive, with 2, 1 TB HDD's in a RAID 0.  I have 2 spare 1 HDD's that I'm  going to put into a diskless NAS as a backup.  User profiles are moved to the RAID also.

And the DRACONEM mousepad will be arriving next month.

    Time for some mock up!

Now for the case to really show off the interior, I went with acrylic mirror panels for the floor and back wall of the chassis. Cutting the sections out to fit the floor and allow for airflow on the PSU side.

I also want to give a big shout out to Hassan @V1 Tech for helping me with a killer laser etching of Tt logo's on my PT40-D5 res/pump

And don't forget the chrome brackets to finish off the PT40-D5

I have the same case and the Water 3.0 Extreme.  Fits in the top, take the top fan out, even has the proper hole placement for the screws.  Plenty of room up top too, shouldn't interfere with your RAM.
