Josephmt reacted to DarthBeavis in DarthBeavis Project: The Man With the Titanium Gun
The theme of this project evolved and took on a life of it's own when I first posted the announcement on Facebook. My initial plan was to do some cool water-cooling showcased by adding windows to the Thermaltake Level 10 Titanium case. I did not want to modify the color of the case as the Titanium finish is the calling card of the case to set it apart from the other family members in the Level 10 group. My plan was (and is) to use projection mapping to modify the external appearance of the chassis in a dynamic manner. Facebook users noticed my case is numbered 007 - so they immediately demanded I theme the project based on James Bond. This lit my imagination on fire. Thus far I am planning on playing a medley of the credit introductions from the James Bond films on different facades of the case. I also plan to add some cool animationic features such as opening doors and panels powered by servos.    One neat feature I also am planning is to mount the single NVIDIA 980s via a PCI-E ribbon so I will be visible in a window I am adding to the lower main compartment of the case. One user already did something similar - however I plan to have the window actually be the top of the GPU block.

I am new to this forum but far from new to PC building and Mods. I don't say this to give away my age, though I know it will...I remember when moding consisted of pulling apart the old beige cream colored cases, which powered those lovely green CRT monitors, maybe adding a fan or spray painting bits and pieces.
Today, that old way of doing things is out the window. No longer is a bit of spray paint or a case fan (or dare I say...an upgrade to a 56k modem.) Gone are those simplicities and though I miss them some days, I absolutely love the attention to detail that goes into new builds.
Coming out of the garage of todays builders, are the Ferrari of computers. Beasts that conquer the bench tests and frag any off the self pc no matter what brand is printed on the box. It is these type of builds that have kept me intrigued over all these years. I can not count the number of PC's under my belt anymore but I do recall the feelings I had the very first time I tore a system down and by some miracle, managed to get it back together. It is the same feeling I still get when I open up a new motherboard or graphics card and smell that unique fragrance that only new electronic components can claim.
I took a short break, (2 years) which in this 'game' can be an eternity. I still followed many other builders online, in awe, of most of the things these people where doing to their rigs. I have since put a lot of thought into my next build. The problem I kept running into was, "What case am I going to use?" I have, in the past had this same problem as I am sure many builders have found themselves in. Typically I would pick a case make some heavy changes such as rotating the motherboard tray 180 degrees. For this new build however, I wanted to start with a case I loved, unlike those in the past I only liked.
I found the perfect one (actually two in a stacked configuration) in the Core X9. This is the first build I have ever followed in a video documentary as well. I know a million videos are out there of unboxing, building, finished products, but I wanted to do things a bit differently and not only show all those things but cover the 'whys' for my components, explore alternatives for those wanting to spend less money, and generally offer some advice that has come with the wisdom only the experience of time can find.
I am here to see what others are doing to their Core X9 boxes too. Most of the info out there consist of  CES Thermaltake images or videos. (Which are excellent) I just feel like this is such a versatile chassis that I would love to see all the combinations others can come up with.

Good luck with all your builds...

Bought this PSU new almost 4 years ago from NewEgg (has a 5 Year Warranty) and it's been a solid PSU up until yesterday, when I woke up to what sounded like Antman using a mini jackhammer, coming from my computer.

Is this the result of bearings going bad? Or?

    Video of the noise: http://youtu.be/u2WqOIezVI8

I'd like to RMU it, but I read a couple horror stories about Thermaltake exchanging it for a lower quality, refurbished PSU?

Josephmt reacted to Kana in Volos Mouse cause of unusual issue.
I was surfing the internet, then all of a sudden my computer started responding slowly.   Only big symptom was that there was a continuous string of periods (.) in search boxes and such.    After much online research and trouble shooting, I was at a loss.   Then I got a spark of brilliance and switch out to an older mouse.   This appears to fix the problem.

So I tried plugging in my Volos mouse on another PC, and none of the buttons on the mouse would work.   I've tried reseting all profiles on my normal PC in Volos software.   Issue with continuous period seems to have vanished, but none of the buttons work on the mouse.    I've reinstalled software, and firmware.  Still no go.

I've had this mouse for less than a month or so, and now i"m at the point of either finding some adequate solution to my problem, or returning the mouse to TT for a full refund, so that I can buy a Mouse that works properly.

Does the Thermaltake hard drive docks for 3.5" drives power off and on/or down when the computer goes into sleep mode. Since I use the dock only occasionally I don't want the drives spinning all the time when I am not using the computer. Manually activating the dock with it's power switch is a pain when you have scheduled backups during the night or early morning. I am using windows 7 64 bit on an HP envy 215XT with I7.

    Thanks

Josephmt reacted to Dabeavis in The Anime/Manga Thread
This is just a thread for discussing any anime we are interested in, have watched, want to watch, or whatever else applies.

I am easily a fan of classic anime including Kinnikuman, Fist of the North Star, Lupin the Third, Space Adventure Cobra, Ashita no Joe, Otokojuku, and Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 among others. I'm mainly inclined to classic franchises because I tend to feel MOST anime nowadays is too reliant on or deliberate with their use of fanservice and overly annoying characters compared to back then, thus I tend to avoid most modern animes but direct iterations/spinoffs of an older series (ex. Golgo 13 and JoJo's) or ones consisting primarily of adults (ex. Black Lagoon).

This is an image I once made by tracing over existing images of characters and putting them in one massive group pic, all of these except for Mazinger (waiting for better subs to be available online) I have watched at least one full episode of. Unfortunately I lost most of the individual images of each character so I can't really expand the roster without doing it all over again (It's not too difficult aside from Kenshiro and Gundam). I did do one recently of Moguro Fukuzou from Laughing Salesman (Which is my current avatar) but I'm not sure If I'll bother re-making the rest.

From left to right...Kitaro (GeGeGe no Kitaro), Ryotsu Kankichi (Kochikame), Mazinger Z, Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star), Lupin III, Astro Boy/Atom, Cobra (Space Adventure Cobra), RX-78 Gundam (Mobile Suit Gundam), Kinnikuman, Cutey Honey, Seiya (Saint Seiya / Knights of the Zodiac).

Josephmt reacted to Andrei Z in Where do I buy PCI cables ?
Alright, just bought a new vid card andrealised that my power supply does not have another cable for the PCI-E. My power supply does have 2 other 6 pin ports that should support another PCI-E cable and probably another for Molex or other, but I do not own any of them. Where to look for, so that I won't bust my power supply, or what alternatives do I have ?

Josephmt reacted to magoman23 in Smart series 750 vs 850m same internal design?
Hi, I'm thinking to buy one thermaltake smart standart 750(non modular) and I read a nice review of the smart 850m (modular)
    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2014/06/16/thermaltake_smart_sp850m_850w_power_supply_review#.VTPyZyF_NBc
So my question is if that review applys to the smart standart 750 as well
my wonder come from a review that i read about the 630 and 730 smarts (Different OEP than the new 750 & 850 smart)
    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Thermaltake-Smart-730-W-Power-Supply-Review/1497/1
it says: "The Smart 730 W is not a 630 W model with "stronger" components; it actually uses a different printed circuit board and, therefore, a different platform"
and both 730 and 630 are manufactured by HEC
    So now I'm really confused

Josephmt reacted to Steve N. Mavronis in Core V21
Hello this is my first post here. I've been a PC tech since 1985 and currently have a GW FX530 computer that is going on 8 years old. I want to build a high end gaming PC myself this time so last weekend I was at a local computer store which ends up carrying Thermaltake products. There while looking at computer cases I saw a Thermaltake V1 case on display. It looks pretty cool so I decided to look it up on the Internet when I got home because I wasn't too familiar with Thermaltake and had been mostly scoping out the competitors so far. Then I discovered the Core V21 case that works out as a better option for me because I love the mATX small format cases and because it includes dust filters. So I think this would be the perfect case for me!

I've watched all the english YouTube reviews out there so far as well as many webpage reviews. But I have a questions/comments about the V21:

I noticed on the bottom panel there are vent holes in the front half that are not dust filtered. Does Thermaltake sell a separate magnetic dust filter that would fit that space? Just to make sure is the PSU mounting bracket included with the case? Any suggestions for neat cable management in an open case like this? I know they can be tucked in the lower compartment but they can be seen through the large window if used on the side instead of the top. Maybe it would be cool to have a centered cable shroud box with grommets underneath they could be hidden into or removable side shields covering the front lower half? I guess I could DIY those. I debating doing CPU heatsink/fan air filtering because there is so much headroom in this case. It almost begs for it and I think they look cool just to be different too. Besides everyone and their brother are doing radiator liquid coolers nowadays. Any recommendations for a big high end CPU heatsink cooler for a mATX board with good RAM clearance? P.S. You need a forum sticky for a Core V21 owners club. I've been planning my build for sometime now with the major internal components basically picked out. I'm timing my build for this Summer when Windows 10 gets released and to prep for the upcoming Unreal Tournament VI 3D shooter release. Waiting a bit more also keeps me on the lookout for new motherboard and cooler releases too.
