    Build log introduction

    About the modder and build.

Welcome, my name is Ian Duncanson i am a 26 year old modder from victoria Australia i have been building and working on computers since i was 15. This is my third fully custom pc and one i wish to showcase, so lets begin.

    The concept -

Simply with the age of ikea and the ability to customise along side the rise of the desk builds i have decided to design and build a desk based upon one of my favorite cases the thermaltake core x9. Now having built a previous desk before i know to an extent whats needed (my original build was a rush job so i had somewhere to play games and best utilise the limited space i had). The necessary goals to a great desk concept are outlined below and are my goals for this build.

Another note about me, im not the best when i comes to 3d drawing and renders so i do the majority by hand its never great but it give me what i need to work with.

this space is reserved for our sponsors starting with:

Thermaltake, without the faith that quite a few of their staff have put in me none of this would be possible. they have and will be supplying me with cases fans/controllers and watercooling gear

    Goals:

    - Fully modular desk solution
    - core values (moddable, versatile, astetically pleaseing)
    -light weight but strong.

    Design-

The design is simple, 5 modules (2 x core x9 cases with 3 custom modules forming a desktop) the desk will be constructed out of aluminium and parts of a (few) damaged core x9's the custom parts will he powdercoated white to closely match the original cases.

Heres a couple of those sketchy drawings i mentioned disregard the measurements these changed many times upon realising i had inadvertantly rushed my measurements.

So we will be begining the construction and finalise the design on the fly. An old war saying is that every plan is a good one till the first bullet flies.

But first a very big thank you to some of my friends for the community, the support you have shown even at the early stages has been phenomenal and for that i thank you.

My first order arrived from thermaltake australia the other day i posted an unboxing ceremony on my facebook page (http://facebook.com/ianduncansoncomputermods)
So i will skip this one as im sure you have all seen this beautiful case before.

Ok so maybe one or 2 photos

Now as much as i love the front grill design for what im doing its too hard to have replicated locally i was quoted over 300 dollars for material and cutting for a full sheet and i only need less than half of one :/

So another popular idea occured i will still have the front panel as a whole just not the mesh... so instead i have started to organise some dark tint perspex to be delivered for the build. But im getting ahead of myself.. but more to come soon

Richardsaky reacted to g5633060 in CHALLENGER Prime Version 3.0 lacks default profile support
Hello, I was surprised to see that CHALLENGER Prime software is so limited. First of all, I want Windows key to work on all profiles, but there's no option for that. Second of all, it wouldn't be a big deal if I could assign macro keys(T1-6) to a default non-gaming profile, but I can't. So basically, I need macro keys and windows key working all the time, and currently I haven't found an ability to make it like that. Any chance the software will be updated in the near future to fulfill my requests?

    Project F1 Dream

Well having just finished a mod that I won’t be seeing for a long while (traveling around shows and such). It was time to build another, this one I had been planning for years to do (those that know me would know this as I have been talking about it for quite a while).

I had originally planned back then to do F1 themed rig based around Jenson and Lewis, but with the team mates split up I put it off for a while (and due to illness, but that’s another very long story).

To cut it short I spotted Thermaltake were doing a new run of the level 10 and having been one of only two that I could find that had modded the original Level 10, II thought let us go down the Lewis Hamilton route and contacted Thermaltake and managed to secure Number 44 for the Thermaltake Level 10 Ltd edition, funny thing is all this was done before he became world champion, so him winning it means I could add a few things.

This time I wanted to be a bit bolder with the build, and do something different to last time and so it begins.

First off let me start off with a big thanks to the sponsors that jumped on board.

Alright, just bought a new vid card andrealised that my power supply does not have another cable for the PCI-E. My power supply does have 2 other 6 pin ports that should support another PCI-E cable and probably another for Molex or other, but I do not own any of them. Where to look for, so that I won't bust my power supply, or what alternatives do I have ?

Richardsaky reacted to Sopheea in Problem with Challenger Ultimate
I recently purchased the Challenger Ultimate, overall I am very happy with it. Easy to use, very responsive..and the little hand fan is just great. There is just one small issue.
It was all working fine, and I had change the backlight colour to my liking using the software...and it was all good until I accidentally rest it to its default settings. Now, the software doesn't seem to want to cooperate with me. I go into it to change the colour to what I want, press apply then press ox/exit to go back to the main menu and it automatically changes it back to the default red and turns the logo back on. I have tried going into all the different profiles, and changing the profiles on the keyboard but it keeps doing the same thing. I also tried uninstalling and re installing the software, and the keyboard itself. Also I noticed, before I accidentally reset it...whenever i would press the profile change button on the keyboard, it would flash up on the screen what profile i was switching into...it doesn't do that anymore either. It's not a huge issue I suppose, just really rather annoying.

This is my build that took me a few months to do due to time restraints. Was actually only a few saturdays worth of work in the end. Put a Dan Woods Pc Mods sticker on just to get my mates page some Rep before i started my own.

There is no build thread for it cause I was slack. I have a build coming up in a stacked Core X2 and i will start a build thread for that here and on www.facebook.com/castlemods

Love these cases to work with. they are tight with all this gear in there even though they start of so big but I guess I just need to go higher with them then dont I.

In a few months I will be looking at updating this case with a complete overhaul and adding in another Core X9 to add some more watercooling gear.

Hey guys The Mad Modder here. I got this killer little wireless charger from Thermaltake Technology Inc LUXA2 as a gift. Thank you very much.
It's the S100 Wireless Charging Pad and Receiver Kit....It is pretty interesting it is a two piece kit comprised of a charging pad that plugs into your USB ports(USB 3.0 provides the 1.5 amp charge rate that most new Smartphones use.) The other piece is a small round Puck that acts as a receiver. The little puck has connections for both Android, IOS and other Micro USB compatible devices...... What I really like about it is you can be charging your phone and it rings...You don't have to unplug the cable just pick it up. When your done just set it back down on the charging pad, and it continues charging...Pretty nifty device....now I just need one for the Shop, Garage and Office.

Richardsaky reacted to Dirty South PC Mods in LUXA2 E-One Headset holder review.
Hey guys whats up The Mad Modder coming back at you with a quick look at the LUXA2 E-One Headset stand.

There are a few headset stands out there. Most of the good one are usually found in most Pro-Audio shops with a hefty price tag. There have been a few made for gamer's however most of them were made of sub-par materials and didn't last long. With that lets take a look at the LUXA2 E-One.

The box is brightly and clearly illustrated. The front of the box has a large illustration of the product.

Around to the rear we see another brightly colored illustration of the product. Below that are highlights of the 4 key features of the product.

Inside the package we find the product encased in a foam cocoon, and a users manuel.

As you can see the product is very carefully packed in a special foam sarcophagus to keep it safe from the evil delivery company on it travel to your desktop.

Once we take the headset stand out of the foam tomb. You get to feel the actual weight and how solid it actually is. The Metallic Silver gives it a high quality look to it.

Here is a close up of the LUXA2 logo and the high quality finish.

The bottom has a massive rubber padding the covers 90% of the surface to make sure you headset stand doesn't slide around, and stays where you put it.

The top of the headset rest has the same rubber padding as the bottom to protect your headrest on you favorite headphones.

And as you can see it does an excellent job of keeping my headset nice and safe.

Well there you go guys. The LUXA2 E-One Aluminum Headset Holder. I can defiantly recommend this product. It's solid construction, quality materials and luxury appearance set it apart from it's competitors. I also have the Hyperion from Tt eSports. I like it a lot as well but this fits my Modern Minimalist style better.

    See you next Mod.

So, is there the way I could get a couple of stock 8-pin PCI-E cables suitable for my model?
