niceta Posted August 13, 2025 Report Posted August 13, 2025 I’m considering upgrading my current desk to an L-shaped one for both gaming and work purposes. I’ve heard they offer more space and better organization, but I’m not sure if it’s overkill for my needs. Has anyone here switched to an L-shaped desk for gaming, and was it worth the change? Quote

For both work and gaming, I'm thinking of replacing my existing desk with an L-shaped one. Though I'm not sure if it's excessive for my needs, I've heard they offer more space and better organizing. I switched to an L-shaped desk about a year ago for the same reason—gaming and work—and it ended up being a solid upgrade. The biggest benefit is the separation of space. I keep my main gaming setup on one side (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers) and use the other side for work—laptop, notes, and anything else I need during the day. It keeps things organized and reduces the constant need to move gear around. You also get more usable surface area, which helps if you run multiple monitors or have accessories like a mic arm, charging docks, or external drives. Cable management tends to be easier too since you can dedicate one side to peripherals. The only downside is making sure you actually have enough room for it. An L-desk can dominate a smaller room if the layout isn’t planned well. If you game and work at the same desk regularly, I’d say it’s definitely worth considering. Quote
smithcarl71 Posted March 28 Report Posted March 28 The extra surface lets me keep my monitors, keyboard, and notes all organized without feeling cramped, which even makes doing a quick Spacebar Speed Test way more comfortable. It definitely feels worth it if you like having space for multiple setups or gear. If you are tight on room or just use a single monitor, it might be more than you need, but for me it was a solid upgrade. Quote

Sure, the extra space helps but if you only have one monitor, it might just eat up room unnecessarily. Some people might prefer a smaller, simpler desk that keeps everything within reach. It really depends on how much gear and multitasking you actually do. Quote
