SSD50 Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 My BlacX Duet 5G docking station will not recognize my Solid State hard drive. I've tried different cables, USB ports and computers - still the same issue. Tried a non solid state drive in the docking station and it worked fine. Any ideas as to why the SSD isn't appearing? SSD50 Posted November 5, 2014 Author Report Posted November 5, 2014 Hello SSD50, Please advise the brand, capacity, and previous use of your SSD (used in a previous system, brand new, etc.) Intel SSD 520 Series 480GB. It's my laptops hard drive. Been installed as long as I've had the laptop - about a year and a bit. Quote
Tt Shannon Posted November 5, 2014 Report Posted November 5, 2014 Hi SSD50, Was the SSD removed because the laptop failed? or have you tried the drive on an internal port on a PC to ensure it is still working?Normally if a drive is functioning normally even if the firmware is not necessarily compatible it will show a raw drive in place but not readable. Also just to confirm all details, have you checked disk management in windows to see if the drive is showing up but possibly not initialized? Quote

The laptop has gone away for repairs due to issues with the fan - completley unrelated. Don't have a spare to test it on. I highly doubt it would be dead. When the laptop went in for repairs I took the hard drive out specifically so I would still be able to access my data. Hence me purchasing the hard drive docking station. Not appearing in disk management. Quote
Tt Terry Fong Posted November 10, 2014 Report Posted November 10, 2014 Hi SSD50, How about Device Manager? Does the SSD appear there? Please try to "scan for hardware changes" and see if the drive appears under Device Manager. Quote
SSD50 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Report Posted November 11, 2014 Hi SSD50, How about Device Manager? Does the SSD appear there? Please try to "scan for hardware changes" and see if the drive appears under Device Manager. After a few restarts and changing of USB ports it's finally being recognized in device manager and disk mangement. Hooray! However the drive won't appear in my computer. Disk management is oddly saying there's nothing on it too - definetly know that's not true. Check out the below screen. http://i61.tinypic.com/10xyl5j.jpg Quote
