  1. Hey Guys! Wew! Its been a while! A long while to be exact since my last update. Things around here, as always, is busy as ####. But I was silently making some progress on this project, and finally! This is going to be the final update for this project! Let's get on to it, shall we? Since my last update, I started disassembling the power supply and the Pump/Res combo to do some prep for paint. This is actually my first time dismantling a power supply and I was just so freakin afraid that I might screw something up. Fortunately, I didn't. This will be the other half of the side panel. And while I was at it, I dismantled a 15" USB powered monitor. It's an AOC portable monitor. I printed out some side clip mounts for the monitor and it will be mounted like this. Time to remove some stickers! Aaaaand, time for some -5c painting outside! I forgot to take photos of this guy, but this is the waterblock for the GPU. Time for some test fit! After confirming that everything would fit in, I then went ahead and started to assembly the system. Although I could only find an hour or 2 of extra time, I was able to manage to get everything to fit in. After cramming everything in and making a quick power supply shroud, I proceeded to do the hard line loop, did a quick leak test and flushed the loop out. Time to fill her up! Aaaaaaaand.... Here's the final photos. They're not much since, to be honest, the side panel that I made looks plain. But I made a quick video of how it actually looks and how it works. You'll see it on the end of this post. In the meantime.... Now this is the part that I am excited to see. System is off. Booting up. And logged in. It's really different when you see it in person. A few close up shots of the side panel screen. And here's the youtube link for the quick video that I made. Pardon all the noise and the quality. I made my YT channel specifically to show the side panel screen. And since I already made one, I might upload videos there of my future project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P542ULzvYdQ&feature=youtu.be And that's another wrap for me! A huge thank you to the sponsors of this project, EVGA and Thermaltake! This won't be possible without your support! Looking forward again with working with you guys! And for the members here who were able to keep up with the waiting game for my updates, you guys are awesome! Thank you so much! See you in my next project! Ciao!!
  2. Hey guys! Its time for a little update! Sorry about the lack of updates lately. I've been very busy for the past month between work and this project. But I was quietly making some progress. First off, since I had access now to a 3D printer (bought a cheap-o printer around December last year), I decided to give it a try and see if I can print with it properly. It's a great printer but you need to have it tuned up very well before you see some awesome results. I tried but again, time is my biggest enemy. This is going to be the hinges for the half of the side panel. As you can see, unless you have the printer calibrated and leveled properly, you will get this kind of print. But in my head, sanding this part a little will be good enough. I will need to sand it anyway for paint prep. Then i went ahead and printed some custom feet. Let's go to the side panels. Original plan for the side panel is the half will be held up by a couple of hinges and the other half will be opened and will slide back and forth with a push of a button using some servo motors. Problem was, I dont have enough room to mount the servo motors. Plus, I was really having some hard time making the servo rotate on a certain degree and count using arduino (I am not smart enough to get them working as I like. :P) Now that that's all settled and done, time to dismantle the case, change the pop rivets to screws and prep it for some paint. And while I am at it, I went ahead and tried to do the bending part on the acrylic side panel. First try, I thought it worked even though I am only using a heat gun to get the curved corner. It looks good on this photo, but once I removed the clamps, I noticed that the sheet actually warped! I tried re-heating and straightening it up, didn't work. Since I am using a heat without any reducer (I stepped on it last year and I just destroyed the poor reducer. It had cracked on both side. :P), I figured why not give a DIY acrylic sheet bender a shot? My ghetto DIY sheet bender. A couple of hinges, nichrome wire, some ply wood, aluminium U channel and a couple of screws. Gave it a try again but this time, I didnt do the curve bend and instead I went with some 45 degree angle bends. And after that, did some final test fit for the panels. After confirming that everything fits in right, I went ahead and dismantled the case again to do the paint prep. Aaaand away we go to my "paint booth" (car tent). That's all for me for this update. and for anyone who is reading this log and wondering why the #### the half of the side panel is hollow, well, lemme give you a hint, If you still have no clue, well, you need to wait for the final photos! Which will be soon. Until then, ciao!!
  3. Hey Guys! Update time! And yes, I am still alive! Did some work for the past weeks for the project after finishing up some important commitments. Shall we begin? Did some more measuring on the view 27 chassis to confirm if the radiators will fit in without having clearances issues, which it had. I tried to fit x2 slim 360mm radiators from Thermaltake, and it looks like the radiator for the front will have one issue. I won't be able to connect the 8 pin power connector for the CPU on the motherboard. I did not noticed the issue at first so I trimmed the front panel (was the top side of the case before) to fit the 360mm radiator without having any interference issues with the side panel. After trimming the chassis, I found a scrap acrylic sheet that was laying around the basement for probably 3 years now, I took that to make it as a "front panel template" for mounting the fans on the chassis. But then, that was the time when I noticed the issue with the radiator and the 8 pin power connector of the motherboard. I could plug the cable in, but it is going to be TIGHT to the point wherein the connector on the motherboard is being forced down to some scary degree. So instead of forcing the dual slim 360mm radiator, I decided to just use one thick 360mm radiator and just have 3 fans as intake on the front panel. After that, I went ahead and draw some random lines and circles as the design for the front panel. And then after that, I went ahead and tried throw an aluminum sheet on my cnc (SO3) just to see if it's going to crap on me. If it did, I will mostly end up making a new design that is not too complicated to do by hand. But my CNC was on a somewhat good mood that day, aaaaaaaand...... I said "somewhat" on a good mood because........ Sometimes my CNC will decide to not follow the .gcode instructions and just do some random lines around the material that I am cutting. In this case, I was on the 95% before completion of the job, but then the CNC decided to go deeper on the cut instead of following the gcode, aaaaaaaaaaand..... I ended up having a broken cutting bit and an unfinished job. So I went ahead and did the cutting the old fashion way.. After a few minutes of filing, I ended up with this front panel. Grabbed a Coolermaster Jetflo 120mm fan that I had laying around and it on the front panel. I just wanted to see what the cut out will look like once there's an LED fan attached to it. Kinda looks cool but I need the MasterFan Pro RGB version. I am hoping that it will become available here before the end of this month. The front panel was a bit long, but that was quickly fixed with a jigsaw and a hand file. After that, I went back to the drawing board (CAD) to try and come up with a mount for the Pump/Reservoir combo that Thermaltake provided. I recently purchased a small 3D printer before the end of last year and threw in my cad design to the 3D printer. I came up with this. I ended up with this kind of mount since the most logical (for me at least) place to put the pump/res combo is on the back side close to the power supply. This way, it'll be much easier to run tubing around. That's all for me for this update. Side panel mount, sliding rods for the side panel, the side panel itself. Hopefully I could get those done for the coming next 2 weeks. See you on the next update! Ciao!
  4. Hey guys! I'm back with another sponsored project! EVGA was generous enough (as always) to send me some of their awesome hardware. This is another EVGA and Thermaltake sponsored project, and I named it "HoloView". Thermaltake was awesome enough (as always) to send me their View 27 chassis and some of their water cooling components. This will be a quick (hopefully) and simple project but will add a special feature to it (hopefully I could pull it off properly). A huge shout out to the sponsors! Here's some of the components that will go in to this project. Yesterday I was able to test fit some components and tear the View 27 down to confirm some measurements and some possible radiator placements. The plan was to rotate the computer case 90 degree so the front panel will be the bottom of the case and the top will be the front panel. Here was my plan, either I will have the 360mm radiator in front and have the 240mm radiator at the bottom or the opposite way around. Originally, I thought I could use the area below the power supply for mounting a 240mm radiator but the power supply that I will be using is a bit long and will have some interference once the power cables are connected. So instead of doing that, I will mount a 140mm fan below the power supply as intake. Now that I have a rough idea of where and what components for water cooling are going to fit in, next will be taking measurements for the custom side panel, cutting out the 140mm fan mount on the back and making the custom front panel for the 240mm radiator. But that will be for the next update. That's it for this first update for the HoloView project. Thank you EVGA and Thermaltake, as always, for giving another opportunity to me for this project! See you in the next one! Ciao!
  5. I would like to nominate, if it's possible, Von Carlo Rasonabe for Japan and Andrew Lee Adanza or Mickee Boy Lacerna for Philippines. Legit modders. All hand made/hand cut. Not just paint jobs and material bending. Wait, am I allowed to nominate?
  6. Hey guys! It's a bit late but here are some more photos. I finally got an extra time to put logos on these photos and upload them all. Been one #### of a wild ride back at work this past few weeks. Again, I would like to say a very, very, very huge thank you to Thermaltake for making me a part of this life changing event! And to all the sponsors who supported all the competitors, Newegg and Avexir, thank you, thank you, thank you so much!! and to all my co-competitors, I don't know what kind of imagination you guys have, but your builds are just mind blowing. I have learned A LOT from you guys just by looking at your worklog photos!! Being a part of this competition with you guys is just surreal for me! So again, thank you, thank you, thank you so much for everyone who participated and supported this event! Keep the mod on!
  7. Advance apologies for the photos. And there are only a few for now. I badly need to sleep. Been awake for the past 21 hours now. Finally, time for some sleep and food!!!
  8. Hey guys! Sorry about this very late update. The weather here is driving me nuts to the core. I ended up trying to paint everything that I could yesterday and today. I did a few more cutting of aluminum sheets for the power front I/O port and for the power supply. I got all the panels installed now. Got the plate that will hold the I/O port up on the top front of the panel cut out. New placement for the power supply. And of course, here's the photos for my paint job attempt yesterday and today. The weather temperature here earlier was -2c degree and the warmest was 6c degree. Hopefully the paint job would dry up normally. Front panel. Top panel. Side panels. That's all for me for now. After I finish all this up, I'll start to assemble the case and move quickly on putting the system together. See yah next week!
  9. Hey guys! So here's my update for the front panel. I proceeded to work on the front panel from I left yesterday after painting the aluminum pieces for the side panels. Time to get my trusty ol' jigsaw to work. And of course, time to work my biceps again. Let the excruciating filing down of the edges start! Time to do some bending! Every time I am bending sheet metals, or sheet of aluminum in this case, that is lower than 22 gauge, I always do a little "chant" before I proceed. "Please dont b*tch out on me, please dont, just this time, please....." Knowing the fact that my bender is only rated to bend 22 gauge and up and knowing that using this bender to bend 16 gauge sheets will probably break the bend or cause some cracks on the bend, that chant of mine kinda helps out ease the paranoia away. For me that is. The first half of the panel! My little chant never fails! Here's the 2 pieces of the front panel. Not the cleanest bend, I know, but I am still happy and quite satisfied with the result. That's it for me for now. 2 more weeks to go, and I still have TONS of stuff to do. See you on the next update! Ciao!
  10. Hey guys! It's been quite a while since my last update and I would like to apologize. The weather here is not helping at all and got some unexpected things that happened here so I needed to clear those up first. Anyway, here's my update for this week. First off, I received a new set of RAM modules. These DDR4's look tasty! Huge shout out to AVEXIR! Last week when the weather outside was still nice, I started to do the right side panel cut outs. And of course, spent a lot of time filing the lines down. Time to drill some screw holes. The next day after I did the aluminum cuts, the weather got worse. The temperature dropped drastically, and when I say drastically, I tried to do some work outside, and as soon as I got outside, I noticed I could already see my breath. Got no other choice but to continue work in our basement. Kinda sucks since the available workable space down there is only around 5'x 5' max. Anyway, time to do the acrylic cut outs for the right side panel. So last night, I finally got some free time to do some work again. I decided to start the front panel. Woke up this morning and decided to start cutting up the aluminum sheet for the front panel. If only power tools can speak, my jigsaw would be cursing at me for too much abuse. Went outside for a quick smoke and noticed that it was a bit nice outside. Stopped doing the cutting for the front panel and of course, I decided to do some paint work while it's still nice outside. That's it for me for today. Will continue working with the front panel tomorrow and hopefully finish it up. Need to do a lot of filing again for the front panel. Ciao!
  11. Hey Guys! Update time! I did the grille for the bottom part of the left side panel. Did the cuts using jigsaw and spent a lot of time filing it down. It will look like this. In this photo, I have fully completed installing the left side panel on the case. the left and right side panel will open up like this. Time to sand them down! For some reason, a thought came into my head when I was about to sand the aluminum side panel pieces. I wanted to try and see if I can do a "dirty" brushed-aluminium effect on them, although I know this effect wont be seen when the pieces of aluminium are all painted up. I referred to it as "dirty" brushed aluminum since, well, you can see it in the this photo. Yeah, not so clean huh? But at least, now, I have a rough idea on how to do the effect properly. Time to do the acrylic part of the panel grille. This was my first time using a moto-saw, and it took me a while to cut the grille holes on the acrylic sheet. I could have done it a bit quicker using my jigsaw but I wanted to try the moto-saw out. And of course, spend A LOT of time filing and sanding it down to get lines straight. Still needs a bit more filing. The weather was a little nice yesterday, so I decided to try the paint that I bought a few days ago to see what it will look like on the panel. Aaaand, the paint looks good on the panels! Well, at least for me, it looks good. Needs a bit more polishing. But I intend to finish cutting up all the aluminum and acrylic pieces first before polishing up all the acrylic parts. That's all for now. Hopefully I could finish up the right side panel next weekend, then after that, I will be moving on doing the front panel. Until the next update! Ciao!
  12. Hey guys! Here's a quick update. Finally got the top panel installed in the case. Tomorrow, I will try to do the side panels (left and right). See yah on the next one!
  13. Hey guys! Not much of an update for this one. Got sick since Friday night, so.... yeah..... Although I tried to still do some work on my project yesterday, but I just stopped. Everything just didn't went smooth. Anyway, the PC components from Newegg came in last Friday (finally) after being stuck at customs for almost 2 weeks. Again, a HUGE shout out to Newegg! Next week, i'll probably blitz my work progress for this project. That's it for me for now! See ya on the next update!
  14. Last update for this week: I was supposed to continue work with the side panels, but then I heard that today is the last day of summer, which means this is my last day to do some decent paint work. Well, that's just what I did. Dismantled the X9 case (man I have never, ever removed that much rivets in my life! ), then did a little bit of cutting for the front panel. I thought cutting aluminum sheet with a jigsaw is deafening, but man! Steel + jigsaw = .... what? what's that again? Next week, back to doing some work for the side panel, and hopefully, finish the top panel so I could start to do some mounting brackets for the top panel frame to the case. Thank you for checking out my work log and hopefully see you next week! Ciao!
  15. Hey Guys! Another update! I was going to post an update last night, but I fell asleep after doing some photo editing for my work log photos (putting in logos). I was exhausted from work, then as soon as I got home, went straight to do some modding/cutting. First off, this is what I have planned for my interior (bottom) arrangement. Since I am planning on, at first, using x2 480 radiators on the bottom of the case, I ended up having this kind of arrangement. Although I ended using x2 360 radiators since having x2 480 radiators on the bottom with both having push/pull configuration, I won't be able to fit the pumps on the back side, beside the power supply. I will relocate the power supply mounting spot in the middle just like this: So, let the murdering (well it's just more on cutting) the back panel of the case begin! I missed using my Dremel rotary tool, but I remembered why I stopped using it. If you are interested in getting a rotary tool, please avoid cordless/wireless rotary tools! Almost halfway through my cut, it died on me. So I ended up using my favourite murdering (cutting) tool, jigsaw! Today, I started to do some acrylic cutting and bending. Quite a learning experience. I learned, DO NOT IMMEDIATELY TOUCH THE ACRYLIC SURFACE RIGHT AFTER YOU POINTED THE HEAT GUN AWAY! I made 3 pieces of these that will go on the back of the top panel frame. It will go like this. Did a little bit of painting so I could try if this gun metal grey color would fit my liking with the red acrylic. That's it for now for me! I will try to go back on working on the side panels tomorrow. See you on the next update!
  16. Looking awesome dude! This is why I love seeing and lurking around your build logs!
  17. My last update for this week. Another pretty small one. I was able to finish up all the cutting necessary for one of the side panels (left panel). I would like to apologize in advance with this update. My photos are a bit crappy than usual. Time to cut some acrylic sheet! Again, I would like to apologize for the quality of the photos. For some reason, my hands are extra "shaky" today. I really don't have those fancy DSLR cameras and I am only using my old LG Optimus. It's not that I have been producing high quality photos, but the photos that I have for this update is worse than the last one. Again, I apologize. Next week, I will be doing the other panel (right panel) and will try to mount them in the case. After that, I will be probably start to do A LOT of acrylic sheet cutting. Will add grilles on the panels too. Or I might try to dismantle the case and paint it up while the weather here is still around 25 "ish" degree C. See you until then! Thank you for checking out my small update!
  18. (September 5th Update) Hey Guys! Here I am again with a little update. I finally was able to finish the doors for the top panel. I got stuck with bending earlier this day. I was able to do a little work and cutting earlier with the side panel. I will probably continue it tomorrow as long as we don't get crazy, heavy rain here. Another long session of cutting and filing again tomorrow I guess! I was able to take some photos of the Riing 12 fans this morning. That's it for now! See you guys tomorrow for another update!
  19. Little update! Some components that I will be using in this project. Avexir Blitz 1.1 Thermaltake Pacific RL480 radiators. Thermaltake Pacific P1 Pumps Till' the next update!
  20. As a huge fan of your work, I can't wait to see what you're gonna come up with!!
  21. Hey Guys, This will be my last update for this week. Nothing much, really. I spend this day testing and doing bends. And for some reason, some stupid reason, I can't find the other (Left door) door for the top panel. Looks like I will be re-doing the left door for the top panel next weekend . I was able to bend both sides of the top panel frame. And now it's time to bend the sides of the door for the top panel. Next weekend, I will try to start with the side panels after I re-do the other door for the top panel. Thank you again for dropping in and checking out my progress/update! See you on the next one!
