Paul S.
I would like to do a build with the Core P5. Question/issue I have is; how/where would I mount an optical drive? I looked at the digital manual and don't see a 'spot' for an optical drive. I am wondering if there is no build-in spot for such a drive, perhaps an external drive could be mounted and if so, does Tt sell a bracket and perhaps there is someone out there with a solution. Lemme know. Paul
Tte Martin
Hello Paul, the Core P5 does unfortunately not support any optical drives by default. Paul S.
Paul S.
Tt Staff, Thanks for your reply. Ever hear of anyone mounting an external drive perhaps below where the radiator/fans are mounted? Bottom right corner as viewed through the glass. I am thinking that might work and would be aesthetically pleasing. Of course the ideal would be to find a drive with mounting holes on the bottom and pre-existing holes in the P5 chassis. Just a thought. Paul
Tte Martin
Modders do what modders do. I'm sure we will see someone come up with an elegant solution very soon
virillium
there is far too much open space to say it doesn't support an optical drive. it may not have a bracket for it, but that is easy to overcome. I have mine sitting flat, and used the pedestal shown for a water reservoir to mount a blue ray player. used a couple of the covers I removed for the back of the expansion slots to support the other side. ultimately, I will pull the 5.25" cage from my old case and mount it inside this one. there I'd ample room to okay with, especially if you mount your drives behind the mobo. since I'm running 3 SSD and no HDD, heat isn't an issue, so they're safely out of the way. as long s you aren't running 480mm radiator, there are several options to mount 1 or more drives along that front face. hope this helps
Tte Martin
Awesome! That's exactly what I meant. If you want an optical drive, you will find a way. It's just that there are no mounting options dedicated to optical drives by default so I can't say the Core P5 supports them.
VileLance
I'm trying to figure out how to mount a slim optical drive from a laptop out of the top of the body. I'll let you know if I can figure it out.
DoctorPete
Just completed my P5 build and have been thinking about the same thing. It would take some custom mounting work, but I believe a thin external optical drive could be mounted just above the power supply from the GPU tray, maybe using Velcro on the underside of the tray facing it out to the left for easy access with case cover on. It could be connected to one of the USB ports of the mother board I/O ports. Also, for faster throughput you could put a USB 3,1 cable/connector directly to ur mobo if it supports one. Could paint the drive to match the case. What do you think?
rhinos4ever
there is one way that i look at its a 3D printed part that hangs on one of the poles i have the plan for it if you would like to email me and i will forward it to you with the website for someone to print it for you
D!gn!ty*
I'm thinking of making a bracket like the one for the power supply and mount it underneath my 2-fan radiator. Like that I'll have my CD-rom and an additional card-reader installed. I'll send pic's of the process later on
Burndoubt
My solution was really simple and easy, since I am air cooling the CPU. Used the radiator reservoir bracket flat side up, at the lower front, and applied some white vinyl tape to mask the basic metal optical disc enclosure. There were screw holes on the bottom of the drive plate which worked for me. Not perfect, but very easy. This LG tray has a nice full button, which I can operate with my toe ;-) so it's also convenient at floor level. Here's a quick pic to illustrate:
