loopon Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 hi, i´m just an noob in building an pc (my second one) and here is the actual configuration: - case is the thermaltak urban s41 - motherboard is the asus z170-p now i just want to connect the thermatake fan (from the back of the case) and connect it to the asus z170-p... but the thermatake fan has an 3-pin - plug and the asus has an 4-pin-connection. should i buy a new fan??? thanks for an answer! greetz loopon Quote
Allerleidesign Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 Asking questions does not make you a noob, it's smarter to ask then it is to go play and possibly break things on your own.... The 4-pin headers on the Asus Z170-p actually double as 3-pin headers, so you can just connect the 3pin fan to those 4-pin headers. loopon 1 Quote
loopon Posted August 23, 2016 Author Report Posted August 23, 2016 hi Allerleidesign, thanks a lot for your fast reply!! i was afraid, to damage my board with an wrong connection... so now i know, that an 3-pin-female-plug is also compatible with an 4-pin-header :-) you made my day! greetz loopon Quote
