Brynjar Posted July 4, 2018 Report Posted July 4, 2018 Hi, I just bought an used USB and eSATA BlacX (ST0005U) HDD docking station. And I put a 3TB HDD into it but it is only showing as 800gb on my Mac. Does the model not support anything over 800gb or should I be doing something else? Regards, Brynjar Quote
ThermalMike Posted July 5, 2018 Report Posted July 5, 2018 Hello, Does the drive have data on it from a Windows based PC? Did you format or change the MBR/Partitions on it to see if that would resolve? (Depends on what I said above and if you have data on it from a Windows OS) 3TB should be plug and play, but again if it was on windows before that could be why. Brynjar 1 Quote
Brynjar Posted July 6, 2018 Author Report Posted July 6, 2018 Hi, and thanks for your replay. No the HardDrive is new so there is no data on it. And I did format it and it showed up as 800gb. Regards, Brynjar Quote

The BlacX ST0005U should support drives larger than 800GB, so the docking station itself is likely not the problem. Here’s what you can try: Check Disk Utility: Open Disk Utility on your Mac and see if the drive is showing its full capacity there. If it shows as 3TB but with only 800GB usable, you may need to repartition or reformat the drive. Reformat: If the drive has an old partitioning scheme (like MBR), reformat it to GUID Partition Table (GPT) with a compatible file system (ex: macOS Extended or APFS). This should unlock the full capacity. Firmware Update: Check if there’s a firmware update for the docking station, as sometimes an update can fix compatibility issues with larger drives. Let me know how it goes! Best regards, Quote
